The board of the Cherokee County Friends of the Library recently met to discuss the library book sales. Due to the current situation with Covid, they have decided to cancel all book sales for this year. It is just too risky to present these sales at this time. The plan is to have a sale in January of 2021 if it is safe to have it. The Board will be meeting again in October to discuss the status at that time.
In the meantime, if your Friends membership comes due, please renew your membership. One half of your membership fee goes to your library location that you signed up for. The other half goes to the Friends. Since the Friends are able to keep the expenses minimal, the fee is usually shared with the libraries for materials or programs. So the membership is very important to the libraries in Cherokee County.
The Board is very sad to take this step since the libraries really count on the money from the sales. In the last year the Friends have been able to give approximately $25,000 to the libraries for materials and programs from the book sales, memberships and grants that the Friends apply for. So this is a big loss. That is why your membership is so important. The Friends have been receiving funds from grants to present to the libraries but that has changed too as companies are not bequeathing as much in grants due to the current situation.
Hope our membership has been able to stay safe through all this and continues to do so.
Sincerely, Marilyn V., Chairperson

We are pleased to announce we recently received a grant from the Cobb EMC Community Foundation to help our Cherokee County Libraries expand their STEM programming for children of all ages. This will help provide robotic kits and other tools to assist children to explore and continue their STEM education through the libraries. Also, we are pleased to announce the recent receipt of a “Round-Up” grant from the Amicalola EMC Foundation & Sawnee EMC Foundation to help our Cherokee County Libraries develop and circulate self-help devices for people with visual impairments.
