Susan White Award

Every year, the Susan White Award is presented annually at the FOL January meeting. The award honors long-term service to the libraries of Cherokee County as exemplified by Susan’s 42 years of service at all levels. The Award is given to a member of the community; they may be a library staff member, a member of FOL, or any other member of the community.  However the recipient cannot be currently holding public office. If you know someone that meets the criteria and would like to nominate them, please fill out the form below and email it to staff@cherokeefol.org. Nominations should be received by the committee no later than December 01, 2020.

COVID-19 Update

Book Sales
The board of the Cherokee County Friends of the Library recently met to discuss the library book sales.  Due to the current situation with COVID-19, they have decided to cancel all book sales for this year.  It is just too risky to present these sales at this time.  The plan is to have a sale in January of 2021 if it is safe to have it.  The Board will be meeting again in October to discuss the status at that time.

The Board is very sad to take this step since the libraries really count on the money from the sales.  In the last year the Friends have been able to give approximately $25,000 to the libraries for materials and programs from the book sales, memberships and grants that the Friends apply for.  So this is a big loss.  That is why your membership is so important.  The Friends have been receiving funds from grants to present to the libraries but that has changed too as companies are not bequeathing as much in grants due to the current situation.

Membership
In the meantime, if your Friends membership comes due, please renew your membership.  One half of your membership fee goes to your library location that you signed up for.  The other half goes to the Friends.  Since the Friends are able to keep the expenses minimal, the fee is usually shared with the libraries for materials or programs.  So the membership is very important to the libraries in Cherokee County.

Branch Hours
Please go to www.sequoyahregionallibrary.org/ for updated branch hours. Some branches are open on modified hours. All branches are still offering curbside service for patrons that want to check out books. Please contact your local branch for more information.
Hope our membership has been able to stay safe through all this and continues to do so.

Sincerely,
Marilyn V., Chairperson
