Now More Than Ever: Show Up for Libraries – April 12 FOL Executive Board Meeting

4/6/2025

In light of recent national developments threatening the future of public libraries, your voice and involvement are more important than ever.
The Trump administration has issued an executive order to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)—the only federal agency solely dedicated to funding library services. As of April 1, libraries across the country have begun receiving termination notices for their federal grants. In response, 20 state attorneys general have filed a lawsuit to block these cuts, citing constitutional violations and harm to essential services.
This is a pivotal moment for libraries—and for us as Friends of the Library.
We invite you to attend the Friends of the Library Executive Board Meeting on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the Community Room at Woodstock Public Library.
📌 At this open meeting, you’ll:
  • Hear from FOL officers and Kara Rumble, Deputy Director of the Sequoyah Regional Library System, about library updates and plans for the future.
  • Learn about how these national decisions could impact our local library system.
  • Find ways to get involved and advocate for public libraries and library professionals.
  • Share your thoughts--public input is encouraged.
  • Explore volunteer opportunities and upcoming initiatives.
Libraries are more than books—they're essential community hubs. Let’s come together to protect them.

Volunteer, Donate, and Shop with Us
Hello, Friends!

After having to cancel last month's Live Sale, we are eager for this week's sale at the Woodstock Public Library. We’ve gathered some great finds, so be sure to stop by and browse our latest selection.

February Live Sale
  • Friday, February 14 | 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Saturday, February 15 | 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

 Volunteer Opportunities
Our Live Sales are staffed entirely by volunteers, and we need your help to keep them running smoothly. The bookstore at the Woodstock Library is open to the public whenever the library is open, operating on an honor system and stocked weekly by our team. However, during our Live Sales, we offer a wider selection of books, puzzles, movies, and games, many of which are not available at other times.

These sales take place on the second Friday and Saturday of each month and are a great way to support the library and meet fellow book lovers. Volunteers help stock shelves, assist shoppers, and keep everything organized. Even just a two-hour shift makes a big difference.

We appreciate your help in making these events a success. Feel free to spread the word to friends, family, and fellow book lovers.

Great news for our local library supporters! Friends of the Cherokee County Public Libraries (FCCPL) has been awarded a generous $1,000 donation from the Operation Round-Up board, thanks to the contributions of Amicalola EMC members.

What is Operation Round-Up?
Operation Round-Up is a charitable initiative by Amicalola EMC that allows members to round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar, with the extra cents going directly into a fund to support local nonprofits and individuals in need. Since its inception in 1999, this program has raised over $2.3 million to benefit the community.

How Will This Grant Benefit the Library?
The $1,000 grant will be used to support FCCPL’s mission to enhance library services, fund special programs, and provide additional resources for the community. Whether it’s expanding educational opportunities, improving technology, or organizing engaging events, this funding will help enrich the lives of Cherokee County residents.

A Big Thank You to Our Community
We are incredibly grateful to Operation Round-Up and the Amicalola EMC members who contribute to this initiative. Your small monthly contributions add up to make a big difference in our community, ensuring that organizations like FCCPL can continue to provide valuable services.

Want to Get Involved?
If you’d like to support the Friends of the Cherokee County Public Libraries, consider becoming a member, volunteering, or donating. Every contribution helps strengthen our libraries and their impact on the community.

Additionally, if you’re an Amicalola EMC member, you can participate in Operation Round-Up by rounding up your bill each month. It’s a simple, affordable way to give back to local organizations and individuals in need.
